If you are attempting to project in a Carthage classroom from a Mac laptop, you will first need the appropriate adapter (available for check out at the Hedberg Library circulation desk) to connect the computer to the VGA cable in the classroom. The VGA cable is a thick black cord with a rectangular multi-pin connector.Once you have the adapter and VGA cable attached to your computer, simply follow these steps to project:
Turn on the projector with its remote control
Set the input on the data projector to computer
Start up (boot) your computer
Your computer image should show on the screen. If it does not:
Open System Preferences
Under “Hardware”, click on “Displays”
Click on “Detect Displays” and your computer’s image should be projected.
If the image on the screen does not match the one on your screen:
Click on the “Arrangement” tab within “Displays”
Check “Mirror Displays”
Close system preferences
In the event you want to have sound from your laptop go to the room’s speakers:
Plug the audio mini plug (often associated with the VGA cable) into the computer’s headphone port.
Assure all the equipment in the room’s rack is turned on.
Depress the rack button marked “PC” or “Computer” and you should have sound.
The volume is controlled with the appropriate knob on the face of the amplifier in the rack. You can also affect volume using the controls on your computer. Both controls must be turned up to some degree.
If your sound is not heard in the room's speakers (but you can hear it on the computer when the mini plug is not inserted) you may have to adjust System Preferences as follows:
Open System Preferences
Under “Hardware”, click on “Sound”
Assure the mini plug for the room sound system is inserted in the headphone port.
Assure “Mute” is not checked for “Headphones – Built-in Output”
