Finding a Physical Ethernet Address
(For manually registering computers, game consoles, and mobile devices on the campus network)
Note: The ethernet address is often called a MAC address - not related to Macintosh
If your device has a browser, you should register it on-line by using your browser to go to netreg.carthage.edu. If the device does NOT have a browser, follow the instructions below to find your device's ethernet (MAC) address, then follow the instructions here to register it.
Conference guests without Novell logins should follow the instructions below and then go to http://netreg.carthage.edu/summercamp-manual.html to register it.
On a Mac
- Click on the wireless connection symbol
- Click on Open Network Preferences.
- Choose the Airport option on the left. (If there is not an airport option on the left, move to step 7)
- Click on Advanced in the bottom right corner.
- The AirPort ID on the bottom of page is the Physical Ethernet Address you are looking for.
- Choose the Built-in Ethernet from the drop down menu.
- Then click on configure.
- There will then be an Ethernet tab to click on.
- Under this tab is where you will find the Ethernet Id that you are looking for.
On a PC (Windows 7, Vista, or XP)
- Click on the Start or Windows Logo
- Choose the program Run
- If run does not appear on the start menu, type Run into the search.
- Then select Run from the list of programs.
- In the box, type cmd
- When the black box pops up, type ipconfig /all (Make sure there is a space between the g and the /)
- When the list of networks appear, scroll up until you see Wireless Network Connection
- Beneath this section will be the correct Physical Ethernet Address you are looking for.
X-Box
1. Turn on your Xbox console with no game disc in the disc tray.
2. From the Xbox Dashboard, choose Xbox Live.
3. From the Connect Status screen, select Settings.
4. The MAC address is the 12-digit number at the bottom-right corner of the Network Settings screen (i.e. 01 33 b2 00 8a 22).

X-Box 360
1. Go to the System area of the Xbox Dashboard and select Network Settings.
2. Select Edit Settings.
3. From Additional Settings, select Advanced Settings.
4. At the bottom of this screen you'll see a heading called Wired MAC Address (i.e. 01 33 b2 00 8a 22).

Sony PSP
1. Navigate to "System Settings"
2. Then navigate to "System Information", which is where the MAC address is listed (i.e. 01 33 b2 00 8a 22).

Sony PlayStation 2
1. Power up the PlayStation 2 and load the Network Adaptor Startup Disc.
2. Once it has loaded, press X to enter the ISP SETUP.
3. The ISP SETUP will begin to load.
4. Once the setup process has loaded, press X to continue.
5. After the network adaptor has been found, press X to continue.
6. Press X again to continue.
7. Select NEW and then press X to continue.
8. Type a name for your ISP setting. This can be any name you would like to associate with this connection.
9. When asked if you currently subscribe to an ISP service, select YES and press X to continue.
10. For connection type, choose HIGH SPEED CONNECTION (CABLE OR DSL) and press X to continue. Select AUTOMATIC SETTINGS and press X to
continue.
11. When asked if your ISP requires a User ID and Password, select NO and press X to continue.
12. When asked if your Internet Service Provider requires you to input a DHCP Host Name, select NO, unplug your Ethernet cord from the PS2,
and press X to continue. (Unplugging your Ethernet cord from the PS2 will cause the test to fail, but you want this to happen so that
the PS2 will display your MAC address.)
13. Wait while your network connection is tested.
14. The network connection test will fail. Do not press X or Triangle. Press Select to see the error message.
15. The MAC address will be displayed. The address is a combination of 12 numbers and letters (i.e. 01 33 b2 00 8a 22).

Sony PlayStation 3
1. Go to Settings
2. Then go to System Settings
3. Then go to System Information
4. View information on the PS3™ system. You can check information such as system software version, MAC address (i.e. 01 33 b2 00 8a 22), current IP address, and remaining hard disk capacity.

Wii
1. Turn on your Wii.
2. From the Wii Menu select Wii Options. (It is the round button in the lower left corner that says "Wii".)
3. Select Wii Settings.
4. Scroll to the right to Wii System Settings 2.
5. Select Internet.
6. Select Console Information.
7. The MAC address will be displayed (i.e. 01 33 b2 00 8a 22).

Nintendo DS
1. The MAC address of the Nintendo DS can be found by going to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Setup in the game's menu.
2. Select "Options," then "System Information." The MAC address is displayed on the top line (i.e. 01 33 b2 00 8a 22).
