Configuring Wireless Access at Carthage

Configuring Wireless Access at Carthage

Follow the instructions below to configure wireless at Carthage.

Carthage wireless access points do not broadcast their SSID.  You must know the SSID for the location in which you wish to connect.  SSIDs are included in the instructions below.

Check if your laptop has a physical wireless switch or a key combination such as Fn-F5 to enable/disable wireless!  If the switch is off or the radio is otherwise disabled, you will not be able to connect, even if you follow the instructions below.

Note that there are two distinct networks:  1) residence halls and 2) all other academic buildings.
If you live in a campus residence hall, we recommend that you

  1. add ‘wifi-resnet’ FIRST,
  2. then register your computer with Netreg,
  3. then add ‘gonefishing’.  (Gonefishing does not require registration with Netreg.)

If you are NOT living on campus, set up only "gonefishing" and bypass all wifi-resnet instructions.

Windows 7 and Vista

Click on Windows button in the lower left corner of the screen, then click Connect To.  (If Connect To is not available, click Control Panel, then double-click "Network and Sharing Center."

Fill in the network name as shown below for the location where you are using wireless.
