  How to Use the Kurzweil Scanner to read text out loud

The Kurzweil scanner is located in the Hedberg Library, west of the MyCarthage Resource Center

  1. At the Novell login screen on the Kurzweil station, click Workstation Only and enter educ for both the username and password.
  1. Place the material to be scanned in the upper right hand corner of the glass on the scanner and close the lid.
  1. Wait for the Kurweil 3000 software to load.
  1. Click Scan on the menu bar at the top of the window.
  1. Wait for scanner to display a preview.
  1. Put on headphones to listen and click Read on the menu bar at the top of the window.
  1. To repeat: change the page(s) to be read, click Scan at the top left of the window, then follow from Step 6.
  1. Remove the material from the scanner.
  1. Log off the computer.
