Scanning a document using Library computers

Scanning a document in the Library InfoCommons (main area upstairs)
Directions for using scanners in Saemann lab further down

  1. Open the Microsoft Office Document Scanning program
    1. Start>Programs>Microsoft Office>Microsoft Office Tools>Microsoft Office Document Scanning
    2. Click icon on the desktop
  2. Select the scanner "EPSON Perfection 1650"
  3. Hit "ok"
  4. Select the style of the original document you have to scan
    1. Black and white copy
    2. Color Copy
    3. Grayscale
  5. Place your document under the scanner cover in the upper right corner
  6. Click on the picture of the scanner on the compuer screen to begin scanning pages
  7. When the page has finished scanning you have two options
    1. Place a new page under the scanner cover and click "continue". If you are continuing, you wil continue this step until all your pages are scanned and will then be able to move part b and continue with the directions
    2. Click "done" and your documents will appear on the screen
  8. When the document appears on the screen, you can either save the file as it is or you can save it as a text file.
    1. To save it as it is, you click on "file" and then "save as." Here you can save it to the desktop or to an external drive.
    2. To save it as a text file, click on "Tools" and then "Send text to Word." A new box will appear as a text file in Word. You can edit the document or just save it as a normal Word document.
  9. When you have saved the file, make sure that you either email the document to yourself or have it on an external drive because when your work will not be saved.

Scanning a document in Saemann Lab (rm 217)

  1. Choose to load as a PC, NOT a Mac. If computer is not running on OS Windows (PC) system, reboot and select windows.
  2. Open the Microsoft Office Document Scanning program
    1. Start > Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office Document Scanning
  3. Select the scanner “HP Scanjet 3500c”
  4. Click “ok”
  5. Select the style of the original document you have to scan.
    1. Black and white copy
    2. Color copy
    3. Grayscale
  6. Place your document under the scanner cover in the upper right corner.
  7. Click on the picture of the scanner on the computer screen to begin scanning pages.
  8. When the page has finished scanning, you have two options;
    1. Place a new page under the scanner cover and click “continue.” If you are continuing, you will continue this step until all of your pages are scanned and you will then be able to continue with step “2.”
    2. Click “done” and your documents will appear on the screen.
  9. When the document(s) appear on the screen, you can either save the file as it is or you can save it as a text file (.txt).
    1. To save as it, click on “file” and the click “save as.” Here you can save it to the desktop or to an external drive.
    2. To save it as a text file, click on “tools” and then “send text to Word.” A new box will appear. Click “ok,” and your document will appear as a text file in Word.
  10. When you have saved the file, make sure that you either e-mail the document to yourself or have it copied on an external drive because all of your work will be erased.
