iFolder3 - Installation for Windows

Novell iFolder is a software solution that allows you to securely synchronize any local files that you've placed in your iFolder directory across all your workstations and the iFolder server. All you need is an active Internet or network connection and the iFolder client. Everyone is given 1 GB of space on iFolder.

iFolder provides the following benefits:

  • Automatically backs up your local files to the iFolder server
  • Transparently updates your files to your other workstations with the iFolder client

Installing the Client

  1. Login to Novell
  2. Using “My Computer” or Windows Explorer, navigate to R:\iFolder3\PC
  3. Double-click on iFolder3-32 or iFolder3-64, depending on how many bits your computer is.
  • Not sure? Click Start then choose Control Panel. Under the Control Panel, choose System and look at the System Type.
  1. Change the destination to C:/Program Files/iFolder3  from C:/ Program Files/iFolder (Very important if moving from iFolder 2 to iFolder3).
  2. Enter your Novell Login ID for User Name  and Carthage College for Organization
  3. Check the button under Install this application for:  Only for me()
  4. Click NEXT
  5. During the installation, a black window will appear, characters will fill the window then disappear. When finished, it will ask to restart the machine . Click OK  or Restart Now.
  6. Once the machine reboots, a message will pop-up at the bottom right of the screen, advising that an iFolder account needs to be created.
  7. The iFolder Preferences screen will appear.  You can adjust options as you wish; it is recommended to accept the default options.  DON’T click OK yet.  (If you do, repeat this step to re-open the window.)

Creating your iFolder3 Account

  1. In the same screen shown on the previous page, click the Accounts tab.  The window shown at the right will be displayed.
  2. Click the New button
  3. Enter wsbackup.carthage.edu in the Domain box
  4. Enter your Novell Login ID for Username box
  5. Enter your Novell Password in the Password box
  6. Put a check in the box Enable Account by clicking on the box
  7. Put a check in the box Default Account by clicking on the box
  8. When you click on OK, you should be logged in the iFolder3 server at ifolder3.carthage.edu.  You can check that you are by looking at the box:
  • Below System Name should be IF3CC
  • Below Username should be your Novell login name
  • Below Status should be Logged In

If you do not see the IF3CC it means that your account has not been enabled for iFolder3 use.  If this happens, send an email to computing@help.carthage.edu to request your iFolder3 account be enabled.
